Stewardship of Time, Talent, and Treasure

Today, we’re talking about stewardship; which is just a fancy word for managing what we have. In a world full of shiny things and endless to-do lists, it’s easy to forget that everything we have; our time, talents, and treasure: has been entrusted to us by God. We're just borrowing it all, and He’s hoping we’ll make good use of it while it's in our care.

Time
We all have 24 hours in a day, but if we’re being honest, how much of it is spent scrolling, binge-watching, or daydreaming about next weekend? (No shame; we’ve all been there!) But God calls us to “redeem the time”:

Ephesians 5:15-16

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

Each day is an opportunity to show kindness, help others, and grow closer to Him. So let’s make a conscious effort to “budget” our time wisely, just like we would with our finances.

Talent (Gifts)
The unique skills and passions GOD has put inside each of us. You might be a fantastic musician, an organizer extraordinaire, or an awesome baker . GOD didn’t give us these gifts just so we can say, “Hey, look what I can do!” He gave them to us so we could serve others. Just like the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30, we’re called to multiply what we’ve been given. Use that voice in the choir, offer a hand at church, or bake a cake for someone who could use a pick-me-up. GOD loves to see us actively using our talents for His kingdom.

Treasure
Lastly, let’s talk about treasure—our money and resources. Money can be a touchy subject, but it’s something the Bible doesn’t shy away from.

Matthew 6:21

Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

It’s not about how much we have, but what we do with it. Do we support our local church? Help a friend in need? Or maybe buy coffee for the person behind us in line? Generosity isn’t just about grand gestures; it’s about a heart willing to give, no matter the amount.

Putting Stewardship into Action

  • Time Audit: Take five minutes at the end of the day to look back at how you spent your time. Ask yourself, “Did I use today in a way that honors God?”

  • Talent Inventory: List out a few talents you have, then brainstorm how you could use them to bless others this week. Even small acts count!

  • Giving Challenge: Find one small way to give financially or lend a hand. It could be anything—a small donation, a meal for someone, or even a $1 bill left in a public place with a note of encouragement.

Let's Pray. Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for entrusting us with time, talents, and treasure. Help us to steward them well, using every moment, skill, and resource to bring glory to You. Teach us to be generous, responsible, and faithful with what You’ve given. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
