Spiritual Warfare in Real Life
While out of town on a business trip, I had a dream-like experience that felt unlike anything natural. As I was falling asleep, it felt as though something evil entered my room. The moment I sensed its presence, I tried to call on Jesus but I couldn’t. It was as if some unseen force was preventing me from speaking.
The more I tried to say “Jesus,” the harder whatever it was tried to silence me. It felt like a force was binding my mouth shut and holding me down. I kept trying to say His name even with my mouth closed until little by little I was able to break free. Finally, I managed to say it fully - “Jesus!” and instantly, whatever it was disappeared.
This type of experience has happened to me four or five times in my life. Other believers have shared similar stories—moments where the line between the natural and the supernatural feels thin. Some might call it sleep paralysis, but I know in my spirit that it was a form of spiritual warfare.
The Bible tells us plainly that we live in a spiritual battlefield.
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
There are real forces that want to shake your faith, steal your peace, and silence your worship. But they can’t win against the power of Jesus’ name. When you call on Jesus, darkness has to flee. It might resist or try to intimidate you, but it cannot stay. The name of Jesus is the ultimate authority—no demon, no spirit, no fear can stand against it.
How to Guard Your Spirit and Your Space
Pray before you sleep. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill your mind and home with peace.
In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, Lord, have me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8
Put on the Armor of God.
Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. Ephesians 6:11
Fill your atmosphere with praise. Play worship music softly at night or read Scripture aloud. Darkness can’t stand in a room filled with worship.
So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7
Keep your heart and home clean. Remove anything that doesn’t honor God. Forgive freely, stay in the Word, and keep your peace.
Create in me a clean heart, God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10
You can rest knowing you’re protected. Even in moments when darkness tries to silence you, the name of Jesus brings freedom, peace, and victory because no force can stand against His power.
Lets Pray. Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for giving me authority in the name of Jesus. When fear or darkness tries to silence me, remind me that I am covered by Your power and presence. Lord, fill my heart, my mind, and my home with Your peace. Surround me with Your angels, and let Your Spirit guard me as I rest. I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and that every evil force must bow to the name of Jesus. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
