Seeing God Through Every Season
Every New Year’s Eve my wife and kids get together and reflect on the highlights, the wins, the lessons learned the year and then create vision boards for the new year. We talk about goals, dreams, and what we hope the next season will look like.
What I love most about this tradition is watching how my kids change and mature every year. Their goals shift, mindset grows and their vision gets clearer. It gives me insight into how they’re thinking, where their hearts are, and gives me an opportunity to speak wisdom into their lives as they move forward.
Some things on their vision boards stay the same from year to year, but there are always new goals, ideas, and new dreams. And honestly, it’s fun. My wife and I also participate so the kids get to see what Mom and Dad are believing God for as well.
When we’re finished, we pray, thank God for what He’s done, ask for strength moving forward, eat together, and enjoy the moment. It’s more than an activity—it’s a reminder that life moves in seasons.
The Bible is very clear, seasons are part of God’s design.
For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1
The rest of the verse talks about a time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to build and a time to tear down. A time to mourn and a time to rejoice. Seasons change whether we’re ready or not, but God remains the same through all of them.
Stepping Into a New Season
A fresh start doesn’t mean pretending the past didn’t happen. It means allowing God to redeem it, teach us through it, and move us forward. God often uses previous seasons to prepare us for what’s next.
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28
As you step into a new season, ask yourself:
What did God teach me in the last season?
What do I need to let go of so I can move forward?
Where is God calling me to trust Him more?
What seeds do I need to plant now for future growth?
Just like our family’s vision boards, some things may carry over (and that’s okay). Growth doesn’t always mean change in every area. Sometimes it means clarity, maturity, and deeper trust in God.
Lets Pray. Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for every season You allow us to walk through. Thank You for the lessons, the growth, and the grace that carried us through the past year. As we step into a new season, help us to trust You fully, release what no longer serves Your purpose, and walk boldly into what You are doing next. Give us wisdom, peace, and faith for the journey ahead. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
