Priorities in God’s Order
The Bible may not give a numbered list but throughout Scripture, God clearly reveals how our lives should be aligned. When we follow God’s divine order, our lives flow with purpose and balance. When we don’t, frustration and confusion take over.
1. God First — The Foundation of Everything
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33
Before anything else, God must come first — above career, comfort, and even family.
He is our source. When God is first, everything else finds its rightful place. When He isn’t, everything else starts to compete for control.
Putting God first means:
Daily time in prayer and the Word.
Making decisions that please Him, not just people.
Trusting His timing more than your own plans.
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ Matthew 22:37
2. Family and Relationships
But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8
After God, our next responsibility is to the people He has placed closest to us.
For those who are married, that’s your spouse and children. For those who are single, it’s your loved ones, church family, close friends, and the community God has placed around you.
Whether single or married, God calls us to serve, support, and love people well. It’s not about titles or household size, it’s about faithfulness in relationships.
The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”Mark 12:31
3. Self
God created us for a purpose, and He expects you to take care of ourselves . Even Jesus took time away to pray, rest, and recharge. When you care for your spiritual, emotional, and physical health, you’re not being self-centered you’re being God-centered.
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought for a price: therefore glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19–20
4. Work
Work is a gift from God . It's a way to use your skills, provide for your needs, and bless others.
But it should never replace your devotion to God or relationships with people. When your identity depends on your job, work becomes an idol. Work diligently, rest faithfully, and remember that your worth isn’t found in what you do; it’s found in Whose you are.
Commit your works to the Lord, And your plans will be established. Proverbs 16:3
When life is aligned in God’s order, it produces clarity, not chaos. When that order shifts, peace fades. But when it stands firm, God’s blessing follows.
Let’s Pray. Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for showing me Your perfect order. Help me to keep You first in every decision and area of my life. Teach me to love others well whether in my family, friendships, or community. Remind me to care for myself as Your temple, and to work with a heart that honors You. When my priorities drift, bring me back into alignment with Your will. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
