Die to Live: Embracing God's Upgrade

Last week, my laptop computer crashed. After running several tests, I discovered that one of the internal RAM sticks was faulty. My laptop has two RAM slots: one (#1) is embedded in the motherboard, and the other (#2) is removable. I took it to an expert who explained: if the motherboard-attached RAM (#1) was bad, fixing it would require a costly motherboard replacement or a complex re-soldering job. But, if the removable RAM was the issue, that would be an easy swap.

Realization:
As I thought more about it, I realized I’d seen this before with another one of my computers. The issue wasn’t just the RAM—it was me trying to push the system beyond its designed capacity. I outgrew the limits of what that machine could handle.

***Life Lesson - You can either limit what you're doing to match your current capacity, or you can grow/ upgrade to handle what you're called to do.

If I’m going to be who God has called me to be, this version of me must die.

  • You can’t fully step into your God-given purpose while holding on to old habits, mindsets, and comfort zones.

  • Growth often requires letting go of a past version of yourself—your fears, insecurities, comfort, even your pride.

  • Growth is uncomfortable by design; it's part of God stretching your faith.

  • Staying stagnant or settling for “just enough” dishonors what God has placed inside of you.

  • Complacency is the enemy of calling.

Luke 9:23

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

You can’t walk in a new season with a limited mindset, outdated habits, or a faith running on fumes. Something’s gotta die.

Just like my computer, the version of you that was "just fine" in a previous season may not be enough in this one.

Isaiah 43:18–19

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Don’t Be Complacent with Potential
You were made for more. God didn’t pour gifts and purpose into you so you could sit back in “maintenance mode.” (The Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14–30) warns against playing it safe with what God gave you) Complacency in a season of calling is not going to work.

You Know Too Much to Stay the Same
This is bigger than lack of knowledge. You know better. You've seen God move. You've experienced His voice. Now it's time to walk in what you've learned.

James 4:17

If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

Call to Action:
You’re either going to limit your life to what this version of you can handle or you’re going to let God upgrade you into the person He’s called you to be. Either way, you can’t move forward without letting something go. Maybe it’s fear, pride, habits, people, or procrastination. Whatever it is… it’s not coming with you into your calling. Shed the old, rise into your purpose, and walk boldly in your calling.

Let this version of you die—so the next version can live.

Let’s Pray. Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for calling me to grow. I confess that I’ve been trying to run in my new season using an outdated mindset and limited capacity. Help me release what’s no longer serving Your purpose in my life. Give me courage to let go, faith to follow, and clarity to recognize what needs to die so something greater can be born.and align my heart with Your will. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
