Are You Caught in the Hustle and Bustle of Life?
Do you know someone who always seems busy? Constantly working, in meetings, dealing with the kids or rushing to the next task? Sometimes, that person is me, and maybe sometimes, it's you. We live in a culture that rewards busyness, and we often mistake our constant activity for productivity. It’s easy to get so caught up in the pace of life with endless to-do lists and the constant demands on our time. The pressure to “make things happen” is how/why we can lose sight of what truly matters.
If you start to get too busy you need to ask yourself “Am I focused on God?" This isn't just a question about time management; it's a question about our hearts. If your life is overflowing with activity, you should think about if your relationship with God a priority ( or is it just another item on an already crowded list?)
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33
Busyness Does Not Equal Fruitfulness
You can be busy doing good things and still miss the most important thing: presence with God.
It's about aligning our lives with God's priorities, not just our own. Jesus provided a powerful example in the story of Mary and Martha. Martha was hustling, focused on all the preparations that needed to be done but Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to Him. Jesus didn't scold Martha for serving, but He corrected her misplaced priorities. ***He showed that presence with Him comes before any task, no matter how good or important it seems (Luke 10:38–42). In the same way, we can be busy for God and still miss Him.
Finding Rest in the Stillness
Jesus offers rest for our souls—a rest that is spiritual, emotional, and physical. He invites us to lay down our burdens and find peace in Him.
Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
He calls us to a divinely appointed rhythm of labor and rest, reminding us that He is in control. I've asked myself so many times : “How/when did I miss God’s voice?” It's mainly because I was too busy and not making time to be still and trust in him.
*** It’s about spiritual discipline. It’s about being intentional with our time and incorporating stillness into our lives so we can actually hear God's voice . ***
Being effective with your time management, means prioritizing your relationship with God above all else, trusting that when we seek Him first, everything else will fall into place.
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. Proverbs 16:3
This means we can release the pressure to "make things happen" on our own and trust that God will guide our steps. When we commit our time and our work to Him, we're making a conscious choice to rely on His plan, not our own.
Let’s Pray. Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You meet us not in our speed but in our stillness. Forgive us for trading time with You for frantic work and noisy busyness. Help us to hear Your voice above our to-do lists. Grant us rest for our souls and a heart that seeks You first. Help us to be intentional with our time so our lives point to You. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
